I welcome any suggestions. I've seen a lot of other Irish movies, but I'm saving them for my Top Ten Irish Movies, and tried to keep this list to movies that evoke the sense of the holiday to me.

I never knew there were so many movies about St. Patrick's Day. Are there just only ten of them? Or are there MORE?! I'm really missing out, but I don't think I intend to see any of them.

The Leprechaun movies are worse than a dishonorable mention. These are some of the absolute worst movies ever made.

I'm sure there are more...Disney had one recently called "The Luck of the Irish", but it's not on video yet.

I've only seen the first Leprechaun movie and seemed like every other teen slasher flick...crappy, but there are plenty in that genre. The first one did star Jennifer Aniston if you want to see her in an early role. I kinda want to see the one with Ice-T...maybe next year.

Well, here are some very worthwhile Irish films;

The Quiet Man (blarney, stereotypes, coarse humour but wonderful romantic lyricism and locations)

The Dead (a beautifully poignant period piece)

The Secret of Roan Inish (a quietly magical little adventure)

The General (Assured and compelling gangster biography)

Hear my Song (charming whimsy)

Man of Aran (the great documentary of harsh Island life)

Odd Man Out (classic, noirish 40's thriller from the director of The Third Man).

not forgetting In the Name of the Father, The Crying Game, Michael Collins, My Left Foot, Ryan's Daughter, The Commitments...

Then again, as St Patrick was actually Welsh (!), perhaps i should have promoted some Welsh films.
