As we near the end of the second decade of the millennium, I have been giving a great deal of thought and attention to the films I love released since 2010. The 20 (or 19 as to leave space for one more) masterpieces listed below include 3 or 4 films that may be considered documentary depending on how that modality is defined. The films are listed in what I take to be, roughly speaking, their chronological order of their world release. The last film to include on any list perhaps should always be a toss up, a matter for personal debate: Is it Alonso's "Jauja", Lav Diaz's "Norte", or "Only Lovers Left Alive"?

UNCLE BOONMEE WHO CAN RECALL HIS PAST LIVES (Weerasethakul/Thailand)

GREENBERG (Baumbach/USA)

MYSTERIES OF LISBON (Ruiz/Portugal)

NOSTALGIA FOR THE LIGHT (Guzman/Chile)

THE STRANGE CASE OF ANGELICA (Oliveira/Portugal)

THE TURIN HORSE (Tarr/Hungary)

A SEPARATION (Farhadi/Iran)

THE TREE OF LIFE (Malick/USA)

HERE AND THERE (Mendez Esparza/Mexico)

PARADISE:LOVE/FAITH/HOPE (Seidl/Austria)

GOODBYE TO LANGUAGE (Godard/France-Switzerland)

MR. TURNER (Leigh/UK)

BROOKLYN (John Crowley/Ireland)

HEART OF A DOG (Anderson/USA)

SON OF SAUL (Nemes/Poland)

THE DEATH OF LOUIS XIV (Serra/Spain)

MUDBOUND (Rees/USA)

ZAMA (Martel/Argentina)

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND (Welles-Kodar/USA)
