There were some serious losses from American movies this week.

This week, we mourned the loss of George A. Romero, the Night of the Living Dead director, who died Sunday (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/16/movies/george-romero-dead.html?emc=edit_fm_20170721&nl=movies-update&nlid=22852861&te=1&_r=0). Our critics A.O. Scott and Jason Zinoman talked about his legacy (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/17/movies/in-george-romeros-zombie-films-the-living-were-a-horror-show-too.html?emc=edit_fm_20170721&nl=movies-update&nlid=22852861&te=1), pointing out that there would be no Get Out without Romero's zombies and equally repellent humans.
An acting great passed away as well (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/16/movies/martin-landau-actor-academy-award-dies-89.html?emc=edit_fm_20170721&nl=movies-update&nlid=22852861&te=1): Martin Landau, the star we remember fondly from Ed Wood, though he was of course in a ton of other movies and TV shows, starting with the original "Mission: Impossible" series.
