Ok its my first post here. So i though to help you guys to understand me I'd put up my list of favourite movies, and the reasons for it. This also gave me the opportunity to sit down and work out which were actually my favourite movies, much belated lol.
So here is the top 10 films according to Kozzi Robe
10. The Usual Suspects - The film that made me a Kevin Spacey fan. I love the films which you watch a second time kicking yourself at all the hints you didn't notice, I am still doing that during my 3rd, 4th, 5th and subsequent viewings
9. Memento - I can associate alot with this film. After having chronic fatigue syndrome which led to short term memory loss I know exactly how it feels not to remember things people take for granted. This film really does hit it on the head. Brilliantly edited in my opinion, again with the agressive twist at the end which I love to see in films.
8. Mulholland Drive - I find it interesting that people believe you have to be a David Lynch fan to enjoy this movie. For me a became a David Lynch fan because of this movie. I have my theory of what happened however thats probably for a different post. Although I love this film for more than the plot, many of the scenes and there use of colour are SUPERB, absolute eye candy.
7. O Brother, Where Art Thou - Its a fantastic script, adapting the odyssey to a (relatively) modern context. Music, in my opinion, really does play a strong role in comlpeting a film and defining mood, this film really shows why that is. Plus the variety of unique and quirky characters really make this an enjoyable film to watch
6. Shadow of The Vampire - Narrowly missing out on my top 10 was Nosferatu. I find this film enthralling on so many levels, beginning with a brilliant premise... What if nosferatu was really a vampire convinced to portray a human portraying a vampire? Supported by an equally talented cast.
5. Gattaca - I'm not generally into Sci-fi films, from my experience they tend to focus more on the technology and creatures and neglect the journey of the main character and other aspects of films. This is a great exception. It's use of colour is eye candy, allowing it to be visually stunning whilst also dealing with some very possible rammifications of sciences newfound obsession with gene's
4. The Lion In Winter - Gradually I am watching many of the older classics which at the age of 19 I was significantly to young to enjoy on the big screen. My personal interest in Plantagenet history only adds to the appeal of this film for me, however it really does stand up on its own regardless. Showing the turbulent relationships of the most sensationalised family ever to grace this earth, this film needed the likes of Peter O'Toole, Katherine Hepburn and Anthony Hopkins to maintain the frenetic energy of the royal family reputed to desend from the devil's own
3. Amelie - I do not know of anyone who has not fallen in love with this film. I think thats sums it up pretty well really :)
2. The Shawshank Redemption - Powerful, depressing yet amazingly encouraging. I don't know how one film manages to deal with so many issues so succesfully in less than 3 hours. I personally beleive that voice overs can really add to a film if used sparingly, this film demonstrates that perfectly.
1. American Beauty - What can i say I'm a Spacey fan, and I believe that this is easily his best film. The music is brilliant, the lighting is superb, and the acting upholds these high expectations as well. I think the one factor which catapulted this film to my all-time favourite is the delicacy it shows. Many times especially towards the end the director is hesistant to use CU's instead allowing the emotion of the performances to reach us unaided. The one-liners? They just add to the satirical nature of this film, "For you brad I've got five"
Well thats my list, as you can tell by the recent nature of the films above, i have only recently been hooked by films, however gradually that should change.
Some other notables in my opinion are
Man for all seasons, Scarface, Casino, Nosferatu, Gone in 60 seconds, Requiem For a dream, Fellowship of the ring
yeah that should be enough for now
