The New York Film Critics Circle is the first of the awards always. I am hampered by not having seen some of the end-of-the-year releases, including Out of the Furnace, The Past, American Hustle, The Wolf of Wall Street, and August: Osage County. Clearly some people like American Hustle, and we all may.

My bad; editing a novel for a friend I must have by Saturday; Did you review "American Hustle" Chris? Would you post a link, por favor. I didn't see it in your NYFF blog. Looks like it just jumped to the front of the pack.

Like you I've just read the GUARDIAN review of David O. Russell's American Hustle but not yet seen it. I mentioned in the BEST OF 2013 thread I startedd here (http://www.filmleaf.net/showthread.php?3626-Best-movies-of-2013-so-far) that I can't make my final list because there are some key end-of-year films I haven't been able to watch yet: "These lists may change because for one thing I have not yet seen some big late releases, including Out of the Furnace, The Past, American Hustle, The Wolf of Wall Street, and August: Osage County." Christian Bale is in two of these, Hustle and Furnace. All these are of course expected by those behind their December release to be awards candidates.

New Out of the Furnace review on THE DISSOLVE (http://thedissolve.com/reviews/417-out-of-the-furnace/). It opens in Berkeley tomorrow (6 Dec. 2013).
