MGM is bankrupt. They rejected a takeover bid by Lions Gate Entertainment (a Canadian company with a head office in the States).
This is sad news for me to read today.
Imagine if someone on the set of Gone With The Wind said to David O. Selznick: Boss, I went to a fortune teller in Kansas- he had a rickety old wooden travelling wagon on the side of the road near some farm. He wore a turban and had a crystal ball- he said in 71 years MGM will be bankrupt. What do you make of it?
My guess is that he'd reply: "Selznick International and United Artists won't be my Good Man!"
Cinema history at the mercy of greedheads.
What else is new?
