Just saw Cronenberg's eXistenZ. What an amazing translation of concept to film. I imagine the script was hard enough. But to depict the reality/artifice border is quite a difficult thing to do. Jennifer Jason Leigh's crimped hair, the pods, the ports, the game movements- all very well conceived. Really impressed. In an odd game playing sort of way, I didn't want to see it end the way it did.

You summed it all up even to the ending. Exactly. On a more normal, but just as intriguing note, just out at Blockbuster and I assume other DVD outlets is "Lathe of Heaven" which is about alternative futures.

It took me an age to work out why the actors were acting so badly.
Then I got it (doh!).

eXistenZ is one of the trippiest films I've ever seen: it captures the effect of being stoned. But Cronenberg is the trippiest of directors. Other trippy Cronenberg movies that are classic, if not all that easy to watch: Naked Lunch, Dead Ringers, Spider.
