Thanks for remembering West Beirut. It was one of the best foreign films of its year but I had forgotten all about it and couldn't remember the name.
Ziad Doueiri who directed this has fallen off the map. I loved this film although I heard that it took 3 years to finance. I hope this doesn't keep him from doing it again. There are no imdb references to recent work either as a cameraman or as a director. I sincerely hope he resurfaces.

Al Ahram Weekly (online) for September 12-18, 2002 has this:
ALSO at the Alexandria Library, a week of Lebanese film began this week under the title "Lebanon: War and Peace". Seven films were scheduled for screening, including Joceline Saab's Kan Ya Makan Beirut (Once Upon a Time Beirut), Maroun Baghdadi's Huroub Saghira (Little Wars) Ziyad Doueri's Beirut Al-Gharbiyaa (West Beirut) and Jean Chamoun's Tayf Al-Madina (Shadow of the City).
We know about Doueri because he had the Tarantino connection and got some US distribution. But has anybody seen the other ones mentioned here?
