This was one of the best films I've ever seen in my life.

Absolute genius, on many fronts.
Guillermo del Toro is a Modern Master.
With this film he is in the elite eschelon of film directors.
What a visionary. Man where do I begin with this one...

I suggest the Academy just hand a bag of Oscars to this man.
The costumes, the production design, the cinematography, the special effects...Jesus what a cinematic experience!
I'm just stunned. I just walked out of the theatre and I'm just bowled over with glee. I wonder if anyone noticed the Stanley Kubrick reference with the movie theatre marquee in NYC:
See You Next nesday
Awesome Guillermo..just awesome my friend.
Brilliant filmmaking.
The scope, the witty storytelling, the smack-you-in-the-face action, all combine to give the viewer an experience like no other.
The sheer originality of it is so life-affirming and joyous.
The color contrasts, the IDEAS, the visual glory and emotional resonance is just a sight to behold man..

If I sound all mushy-gushy too bad.
I worship this shit. This is real, undeniable cinema right here folks.

The story:

Hellboy and Liz and Abe and B.P.R.D. agent Johann Krauss (love him- great new addition, great new character) are at war with a Prince who can unleash a Golden Army that's been dormant for some time. His sister Princess Nuala, has a relationship angle with Abe that adds some complexity to the proceedings.
Hellboy and Liz are expecting, and Johann is brought in to steer the agents right. He's a protoplasmic mystic voiced by Seth McFarlane and his big action sequence towards the end where he "vaporizes" into a massive Golden soldier was just jaw-dropping. He kicked ass and his banter with Hellboy provided much entertainment for this viewer.

This film is amazingly bombastic, compelling and entertaining.
I'm just in awe of del Toro's talent.
Between this and The Dark Knight you have the two crown jewels of cinema for 2008.

Just wonderful, enchanting cinema.
Thank you to all who worked on it.
Bravo Bravo Bravo.
Super-fucking GENIUS movie.
That's it, that's all.

Nolan, Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson are more talented than many of the directors of "prestige", Oscar-baiting, "adult fare". The summer films they make have higher budgets hence an imperative need to appeal to all demographics which is a limiting factor with which they must grapple. Hellboy II is really good. It has a unique charm lacking from many big budget, contemporary fantasy films.
