LONDON — Hometown favorites "United 93" and "The Queen" are vying with "The Departed," "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Volver" for the film of the year award from the London Film Critics Circle.
"The Queen" led the nominations with seven, followed by "The Last King of Scotland" with five.

But the London critics spread their kudos far and wide. As well as nominating several of this year's Oscar front runners, they also bestowed multiple nods on dark horses such as "The Prestige" (four) and "Children of Men" (three), and on low-budget Brit pics including "Red Road" (four), "London to Brighton" (three) and "Pierrepoint" (three).

They even found time for some of last year's Oscar contenders, such as "Capote" and "Good Night, and Good Luck," which qualified because their U.K. release fell in 2006.

Judi Dench ("Notes on a Scandal") and Helen Mirren ("The Queen") were both nominated twice, for British actress and actress.

The award ceremony takes place on Feb. 8.
