Director: Mathieu Kassovitz
Cast: Vincent Cassel, Hubert Koundé, Saïd Taghmaoui

In Cannes Film Festival 1995, it won the Prix de la mise en scène (i.e., Best Director)

For César Awards 1996, it garnered the Best Film, Best Editing and Best Producer.

What is commendable ...
-- Everything looks so real ... such that the audience could connect ...
-- Wow ... the cast carried their roles *very well*, delivering their lines as though they were really their own and not scripted ... and you believe they are actually friends ...
-- The choice of black and white (despite filming in color) is great ...
-- Finally, the theme of the film: It is not just about hatred ... but about respect ...

What may be problematic ...
-- Hmmm ... some people might misconstrue it as an anti-police film ... but frankly, it has much more to it ...

Conclusion:
I highly recommend the film!
Hopefully, all of us learn something from it ...
;)

PS: In the new edition, the subtitles are very readable!

Interesting trivia:
-- Most of the backstage crew did their "cameo" on the subway scene.
-- The director's father was in the gallery scene
-- The producer was the taxi driver, etc

hee hee
