Well, these are my thoughts

(1) Best Young Actor: Freddie Highmore - Finding Neverland
I am VERY glad that they have this category ...
hooray !!!

(2) Best Supporting Actor: Thomas Haden Church - Sideways
I know this category is real tough, I agree it is either Thomas or Clive ...
but can I still campaign for Clive Owen ... ha ha ha

This year, the Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Sup Actor categories are tough ...
Best Actor - either Leonardo DiCaprio, or Jamie Foxx
Best Actress - either Imelda Staunton or Hilary Swank
Best Sup Actor - either Thomas Haden Church or Clive Owen

(3) Best Film - Sideways
Hmmm ... I think this film is very good, esp. the cast. It is definitely among the top 10. BUT BUT BUT, if I were to tell my friends overseas that this is the best film of 2004, they will be like "huh?! what?!" Sometimes, I do wonder if this film might be "esoteric" for some people ...
I am more inclined to vote for "Million Dollar Baby" or "The Aviator" ...

You have to be a little happy for Thomas Haden Church. He's getting so much attention after doing so much lame tv since the end of Wings in 95. Seems like a nice, interesting dude. Hats off to him for reinventing himself!

I am happy for him too, esp. after watching his speech at the Critics' Choice Awards.
;)

On the other hand, being a non American, I have not watched his past performances. Anyway, I think actors should be judged solely on the particular performance alone.

So, as I recall,
-- Clive Owen: I was TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY by him when I walked out of the theater after watching Closer. I was like ... WOW ...
-- Thomas Hayden Church: I was like ... this guy is really VERY funny ... ;)
-- Alan Alda: After watching The Aviator, the first thing I tell myself was, WHY WHY WHY no critics praised the actor for the senator, I HAVE TO make the mention!
-- Freddie Highmore: well, another very good performance after Haley Joel Osment ... ;)
-- Morgan Freeman: ok ... very subtle performance
