While its perhaps beneath most astute serious film fans, The "Little Black Book" presents one of the most wonderful twists since "The Sixth Sense" in a romantic comedy genre. This movie is Ally McBeal welcome to television. Holly Hunter and Kathy Bates perform solidly in this comedy that has more serious undertones that prove in the end to make this movie into a much more deliberate and meaningful film than most romantic comedies.

Brittany Murphy offers up a funny, wildly entertaining, but perhaps one of the more overlooked movies of the year. It's too bad, more of the audience didn't really appreciate the pathos and the deliberately well written script the truly has a solid, not airy nor mindless subtext.

One of the best romantic comedies to come out in years.

The Internet Movie Database reveals a fascinating statistic in Little Black Book ratings.

While the younger girls liked this movie, the older women seemed to hate it. At the same time, the younger boys hated it while the older men liked it. What does this say about this film? And how can it be evaluated as a film.

One could say that the subject and plot was less appealing to the older women more for what it implies about their lives and more appealing to younger women for what it may hopefully mean to their happier futures. For younger men, the idea that they could be so cruelly jilted and mis-understood while for older men, the idea of a really got it together woman and having second chances for true love makes them hopeful.

However, underlying all of this movie is the powerful message it sends out about men and women, second chances, reality television, and going after one's dreams. There is more to this movie than just the usual comedy romance and the truth is in the statistics.
